At ARISE Counselling Solutions we bring many years of both professional and life experience to our work. Before starting ARISE Counselling Solutions in 2010, Director and Senior Therapist Sharalyn Drayton had been working in this field since 1998. With a background in Management in the corporate sector, Sharalyn moved into the area of mental health, completing a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts. She also holds qualifications in Clinical Pastoral Counselling and Drug and Alcohol Work and has worked in a number of leading Sydney hospitals. Undertaking specialised training in America to support the work she does with partners of sex addicts, Sharalyn is Australia's first APSATS Certified Clinical Partner Specialist as well as an IITAP Certified Sex Addiction Therapist. Sharalyn works with a variety of clients covering a range of issues from addiction to trauma and abuse, to helping clients address problems caused by those general life issues we all confront from time to time. Sharalyn also helps clients work with problems such as relationship issues, grief, loss, depression and anxiety and all areas relating to addiction, and provides specialised support to the partners of addicts and sex addicts.
As a member of the ACA College of Supervisors we are also able to offer supervision to counsellors and therapists.
Sharalyn has written and presented on the topic of sex addiction, or what she calls "The Silent Addiction", and the difficulties faced by partners and families trying to deal with this. Sharalyn was published on this topic by Australian Counselling Association in their quarterly journal ("The Silent Addiction - How Do Partners Deal With Something They Struggle to Even Talk About" Vol.15, No.3, Spring 2015). Sharalyn is also the author of "Resistance to Resilience: Addiction, Co-dependency and Doing Life Differently" published in Perspectives on Coping and Resilience, Authorspress, 2013, and presented a paper titled Betrayal Trauma: Working with Partners of Sex Addicts at the Australia and New Zealand Addictions Conference in Queensland in 2017. This has since been published in Counselling Australia vol18 no.3 spring 2018. These publications are available to read on this website.
Sharalyn understands the process of change and the challenges inherent in that process. Appreciating that it can be hard to talk about difficult or sensitive issues, at ARISE Counselling Solutions you are offered a very supportive and highly confidential environment.
At ARISE Counselling Solutions our commitment is to help turn lifes challenges into life changing opportunities.
